Arequipa

Arequipa is the second most populated city in the country after Lima. Stretching in the altiplano at 2,380m, it is dominated by the imposing Misti volcano. Its nickname, "the white city", is due to its historic centre built with white volcanic stones, the sillar. Among the most remarkable monuments of this centre, the Monasterio Santa Catalina is a symbol.
